Tyrnos
The Tyrnos 20 and 30 series have been popular with medium tackle anglers wanting something approaching Tiagra performance without a Tiagra price tag, but there has been quite some demand for light tackle versions as well. This angler interest has been answered in the form of the Tyrnos 12 and 16 models.
The 12s hold 420yds of 14lb and the 16s 520yds of 20lb, although as the model numbers suggest they would make superb 12 and 16 pound (six and eight kilo) game reels. The drag at strike while retaining adequate free spool is 13 pounds, while the maximum drag at full (sunset) is 33 pounds, so you could fill them with heavier braided line and use them for non- IGFA fishing as well. Think jigging here, and with no cross-bar to get in the way, extra stopping power via thumb pressure can be easily applied if the situation warrants. Gear speed across the range is a uniform 5:1, while a 2:1 gear ratio is available in the dual speed models (see page 10).
The single speed versions have alternating twin pawl anti-reverse mechanisms, while the dual speed reels have double pawls.
